Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia puts Nintex to work for automation

The non-profit migrates its forms built with the discontinued InfoPath, and upgrades SharePoint Designer workflows to Nintex.

The IT team at Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia (GCCVA) were heavy users of SharePoint 2010, using many InfoPath forms and SharePoint Designer workflows. Both tools presented significant limitations, especially when interacting with other line-of-business systems. Making it all work together required complicated custom development that often caused other problems. When it came time to migrate from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2019, they realized it was an opportunity to improve other aspects of their IT infrastructure.

Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia chose Nintex to replace InfoPath and SharePoint Designer Workflows. Leveraging Nintex for SharePoint has helped GCCVA’s IT team automate processes faster and more effectively than previously possible.

Who they are

Goodwill of Central and Coastal Virginia is a non-profit organization that provides job training, employment placement services, and other community-based programs. The organization believes in changing people’s lives through the power of work.

What they need

As GCCVA began planning to move from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2019, they needed to replace and improve their workflows and forms that used InfoPath and CodePlex list adapters.

How they did it

Nintex Workflows and Forms provide GCCVA with the functionality they need to improve the efficiency of key processes and to facilitate more complex processes.

Speeding up processes with no-code workflow

GCCVA’s IT team has automated various business processes by leveraging Nintex Workflows and Nintex Forms, including creating a transactional solution to provide automated reporting for billing and metrics. With Nintex, the IT team build a custom application featuring a modern, easy-to-use design on the front end that connects to a SQL database on the back end for records, data validations, and auditing. Now, the 10 day or more process, takes just 3 to 5 days.

By making the switch from SharePoint Designer and Infopath to Nintex for forms and workflow, the IT team at GCCVA has found it much easier to deliver complete business-critical process automation solutions across the organization. Nintex helps the IT department at Goodwill manage, optimize, and automate key processes that power the organization forward. And with that help Goodwill employees are better positioned to provide the services that play such an important part in so many people’s lives.

“My new form tool is Nintex. Period. All my development is in Nintex, and I no longer have to touch InfoPath. In fact, when I need a new update to an InfoPath form, I just rebuild it in Nintex.”
Erin Glenn, SharePoint Solutions Architect, Goodwill of Central & Coastal Virginia
