About the role:
The Engineering Manager for the DevTools team leads a group focused on building internal developer platforms (IDPs), tooling, and services that enable product delivery teams to move quickly, safely, and efficiently. This role is designed for a technical leader who thrives at the intersection of high-scale systems architecture and people development. You will champion our developer portal, treating our internal developers as customers to build seamless, self-service tooling that removes cognitive load and accelerates product delivery. You ensure your team delivers high quality, secure, and reliable software aligned with product and infrastructure roadmaps. You partner closely with Product Management, Platform Engineering, and internal delivery teams to define, build, and operate foundational tooling such as containerized application systems, CI/CD workflows, platform integrations, and shared infrastructure capabilities.
Your contribution will be:
Engineering Leadership:
– Ensure the team produces high-quality, secure, well tested code.
– Provide technical direction for developer platforms and shared tooling.
– Guide design and architecture decisions with clear tradeoffs.
– Promote best practices for scalability, resilience, security, performance, and reliability.
– Oversee service reliability and ensure systems meet SLOs and SLIs.
– Ensure CI/CD pipelines and automation support delivery teams.
Delivery & Execution:
– Run the team using agile principles with meaningful metrics.
– Maintain visibility into risks, technical debt, dependencies.
– Partner with Product Management to shape and prioritize the backlog.
– Ensure timely delivery of features and platform capabilities.
– Participate in incident management and follow-up improvements.
Team Management:
– Coach and develop engineers with growth plans.
– Lead hiring and workforce planning.
– Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Technical Expertise:
– IDP Tooling: Experience with ArgoCD, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Pulumi). Experience with Backstage or similar internal portals is a significant plus.
– Cloud Native Ecosystem: Understanding of Kubernetes, container security, and service mesh within Azure/AWS environments.
– DevEx Metrics: Familiarity with tracking DORA metrics and Developer Experience (DevEx) signals to measure the platform’s impact on velocity and quality.
To be successful, we think you need:
- 2+ years experience in leading a team
- 6+ years of strong experience and background in software engineering (Javascript, NodeJS, ReactJS, Relational and Non-Relational Databases)
- Strong experience in Kubernetes & Containerization.
