A building inspection is conducted for a variety of reasons: periodic inspection as part of regular preventive maintenance, during and after construction has been completed for new buildings and properties, or after a significant event such as an earthquake to confirm it is safe for re-entry. Building inspectors and structural engineers have many buildings to inspect, and usually so much time is wasted transposing written notes into a formal report. That report then needs to be formally signed and sent to the customer or relevant authorities, which can take a long time using traditional, paper-based methods.

An inspector can record all their findings via a mobile app, with items such as weather conditions and street address automatically calculated. The inspector can also take photos and edit them on the spot during the inspection if they need to identify hazards or highlight something important that needs to be noted in the report. The system then produces a formal report for review and sign-off by the engineer before it is sent off the client or relevant authorities.
