For this Q&A article, we caught up with Ayman El-Hattab who represents the Nintex team in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Right off the bat when he joined in 2016, Ayman has been an MVP of our EMEA region. He—quite literally—is an MVP after being awarded Microsoft MVP status for seven years.
More than his MVP status, Ayman is a hard-working and vital member of the Nintex team.
In the beginning of Ayman’s Nintex career, he worked with customers in roughly 10 countries as a one-man team. He was taking care of business development, pre-sales, account management, and technical sales support for the MENA region.
Now, nearly five years later, Ayman’s team has grown 11x since he first began. He has a team of 11 people spread across Johannesburg, London, and Dubai while working with customers in over 100 countries across the globe.
We asked Ayman a few questions and shared his answers below:
- What is your role at Nintex?
Senior Director of Emerging Markets
- Tell us a little bit about your career development at Nintex?
I started as a technical evangelist and then moved to a territory manager. Then I did some business development. For at least a short amount of time, I have had experience in doing all the jobs that my team of eleven do now. It helps me understand what it takes to be successful in a particular role and how I can help each member of my team to be as successful as possible in their current position.
- What is something you’re most proud of?
As an MVP at Microsoft there are about three percent of Microsoft MVPs who are also awarded Regional Director (RD) status – so when it was offered to me I was honored to accept the position. My experiences as a Microsoft MVP and RD helped me diversify my skillset. Especially with public speaking because it wasn’t always a strength of mine. I got way better at addressing an audience after I visited over 40 countries for speaking engagements as an MVP and RD.
- What does an ideal day-off of work look like for you?
I love anything that gets my adrenaline pumping. I appreciate an active lifestyle – going for a hike with friends or zip lining between cliffs or sky diving for a nice view. I recently went to Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais which is the highest mountain in the UAE and also home to the world’s longest zipline. We reached speeds of 150km and it was awesome!
- Where is home for you?
My home country is Egypt. I have never had the sense of home elsewhere.
- What is the best part about where you live right now?
Dubai is a very diverse city. It’s international. No matter what I’m craving, I can find good British food, Mexican food, Japanese food, Lebanese food – you name it. All this is within the vicinity of where I live.
There are a lot of great places outside of the city too. For example, last week a few friends and I visited a wildlife reserve where we saw elephants, cheetahs, giraffes, tigers, gazelles, and more.
- Favorite food?
I love Mexican cuisine – there are a lot of similarities to Egyptian food which is why I think I love it so much. I enjoy eating beans for breakfast and Mexican cuisine is the only other cuisine that I know of that serves beans with every meal.
- What would you choose as a superpower and why?
During a recent conversation with friends, a similar question came up and I was stumped. One of my friends said being able to communicate with ghosts, another friend said flying. I asked them to let me think about it for an hour. After reflecting, I decided if I could avoid all the mistakes I’ve ever made, that would be awesome! So to answer this question, my superpower would be having the best judgement to do the right thing all the time, the first time.
- What would an alternative line of work be for you?
A football player for Liverpool.
- Do you have any advice for a prospective Nintex employee?
Agility. For example, Nintex has made multiple acquisitions in the recent years. A few weeks after Nintex acquired K2 Software, my team was able to sell, promote and demo K2 software. We’re agile. That’s what makes us successful.
