Empowering people and process across the energy industry

Digital transformation is nothing new to the energy industry. In fact, energy companies were among the earliest adopters of digital technology – using digital and cloud-based tools for data management, equipment monitoring, field service, and more.

In today’s blog post we highlight three leaders in the energy industry that are leveraging digital process automation to empower their people, optimize their processes, and better serve their customers.

Saudi Electric Company

Saudi Electric Company (SEC) is the largest provider of electric power throughout the Middle East and North Africa, serving over 9.8 million customers.

Previously SEC relied on a mainframe-based management system and manual processes. However, with so many field sites, it was a struggle to manage construction, oversee maintenance, and support contractors working in remote areas.

In their objective to streamline and digitize their processes, SEC created a series of solutions powered by Nintex Workflow, Nintex Forms, and Nintex Mobile. These include a Violations Control System, Maintenance Management System, Employee Complaints System and a Smart Metering Project that has converted over 9 million meters into smart meters.

“With the Nintex-based portal, our managers now have access to data, pictures and video of remote sites throughout the construction process, so they have a faster, fuller understanding of project status and can make better decisions about how to proceed.”

— Ahmed Al Ssaggaf, Project manager of Advanced Technologies, Saudi Electricity Company

They also developed a Contractor Portal which provides status updates and insight on each task, manages the process for requests or modifications and tracks completion of certificates and work permits.

The portal uses advanced workflows and tasks to complete electronic forms and enable contractor crews to respond to notifications, upload pictures of site status, follow approval processes and provide status updates.

SUEZ – Water Technologies & Solutions

SUEZ – Water Technologies & Solutions (SUEZ WTS) provides solutions to treat water for over 30,000 customers that solve challenges related to water scarcity, quality, productivity, the environment, and energy.

Previously part of GE, SUEZ WTS needed to migrate almost 200 business-critical legacy workflows to Nintex for Office 365. Their number one priority was to transition to the new platform – without disrupting daily business.

SUEZ worked with Nintex Partner Hub Collab to define a framework for developing and migrating the workflows. Using the drag and drop features of the Nintex Process Platform, users were able to quickly adopt the tool and migrate the processes in half the projected time.

With their processes now on Nintex, if urgent approvals are needed they can be reviewed and approved from anywhere with Nintex Mobile. Using Nintex enables SUEZ WTS to operate more efficiently, providing better quality and commitment to their customers.

“The SUEZ 2030 Strategy requires us to be simpler, be faster, be more innovative, and be, basically, world-class. That requires very strong processes. It requires a global mindset, and it requires the right tools to support these processes. We are convinced that Nintex is one of these tools that allow us to achieve these ambitious goals as a company.”

– Gerard Van Kempen, EMEA CIO, SUEZ Water Technologies & Solutions

First Solar

First Solar produces the lowest carbon solar available today and is the only U.S.-headquartered company among the world’s largest solar manufacturers.

Operating in the United States, Malaysia, and Vietnam, First Solar needed to move away from manual based processes in email and excel to create operational efficiency across their global organization.

The organization implement Nintex K2 Five to automate and modernize work across its business. To date, the company has deployed over 30 applications to streamline process, eliminate manual work and support continuous improvement.

“Nintex K2 Five gives us the ability to get solutions out the door a lot faster. We’ve been able to get the same amount of work done in less time but with better quality.”

– Charles Carr, Manager of IT, First Solar

First Solar leveraged Nintex K2 Five to implement a Change Management System using seven advanced workflows and dynamic forms to replace a 21-tab excel that tracked the organization’s Change Management process.

Using rules-based workflows and forms, the solution orchestrates a gating process that evaluates the risk and complexity of any change, and manages its approval process.

Thanks to its adoption of Nintex K2 Five, First Solar has streamlined processes and realized up to a 50% time savings in development timelines.
