Workflow keeps people and planet healthier
Northumbrian Water uses Advanced Workflow for Office 365 to promote water safety and regulatory compliance
Northumbrian Water utility provides drinking water and sewage services to 4.4 million customers in northeastern UK. It also tracks the physical condition of hundreds of chemical tanks. Some tanks might be underwater or 50 meters underground. Tanks that corrode can leak toxic chemicals that damage the environment and seriously injure people. They can also expose the utility to tens of thousands of pounds in regulatory fines and even higher civil damages.
One of the company’s most crucial uses for Microsoft Office 365 was to track the condition of chemical tanks. Tank status was tracked with spreadsheets and paper forms. It took time to route the forms and spreadsheets for upload to databases for analysis. Because they were offline or routed via email, forms and spreadsheets weren’t tracked, couldn’t be searched, and didn’t facilitate analyses. This caused delays in identifying and addressing potential safety issues.
Northumbrian Water prides itself on its environmental sustainability and safety records. A chemical leak due to inefficient tracking processes could be a disaster in more ways than one.
To avert a potential disaster, Northumbrian Water worked with technology partner, Synergi, to digitally transform and modernize their tracking processes. Synergi recommended the Nintex Platform for its deep integration with Office 365, mobile access, ease of implementation, and flexibility.
