Recycler drives 120% ROI with digital compliance process

Automated compliance process reduces the cost to maintain certifications crucial to business growth

IMS Electronics Recycling plays a crucial role in helping manufacturers and others throughout the US to reduce their carbon footprints through responsible recycling of e-waste. Its customers need to comply with an ever-growing range of state, local, and federal regulations.

Robert Benavent, Director of Compliance, and his department ensure that IMS Electronics itself complies with a host of regulations, particularly the regulations that govern key industry certifications such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and the R2 (Responsible Recycling) standard. Staying compliant is a time-intensive process for the company to both safeguard current revenue and drive additional revenue. If the company loses a certification they risk losing customers and being locked out of markets. Benavent needed a way to better manage the compliance process and turn his cost center into a driver of business value.

Who they are

IMS Electronics Recycling offers customers full environmental compliance and assists with IT asset management and data destruction. It is a responsible recycler of electronics including computers, televisions, telecommunications systems, universal waste such as CRTs, and more. The company operates facilities throughout the US.

What they needed

The company sought a way to boost compliance while reducing the time and effort required of employees to achieve it.

How they did it

IMS Electronics adopted Nintex Advanced Workflow for Office 365 to automate workflow for the daily inspection of equipment. Notifications alert managers to equipment needing servicing and update staff on status.

Automated workflows reduce paper waste and improve employee productivity

As a first project, IMS Electronics used Nintex Workflow for Office 365 to automate the daily inspection process for equipment. Previously, workers completed paper forms to capture equipment status and those forms were routed to managers to have equipment serviced, repaired, or replaced as needed.

Now, workers armed with tablets capture equipment status directly in the Nintex-based solution. The content is stored in SharePoint Online and managers receive notifications to take action to bring the equipment back into service. As a result of the automated workflows, the company has been able to significantly reduce paper, redirect employees to more productive tasks, improve data accuracy and improve maintenance and repair times, boosting the company’s overall productivity and reducing the chance that it will be fined for noncompliance by OSHA or sued for workmen’s comp.

If tools like Nintex for Office 365 didn’t exist, we’d be at considerable risk of not staying competitive in the marketplace.
