The Next Generation of Nintex Workflow Cloud®

I was part of a very small team that was tasked with extending the power of Nintex to customers and users beyond the Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) space a few years back. Our goal was to create a cloud automation platform that would make it easy to automate workflows in other applications such as Salesforce, Box, Google, Dropbox, Adobe Sign, and more. It would provide a seamless way of integrating these applications within a single workflow platform.

We asked ourselves: what this single automation platform in the cloud would look like, what we would need to do to converge our cloud offerings, and how this platform could serve current market needs and also extend the value to new ecosystems and verticals?

This began the journey to create the next generation of Nintex Workflow Cloud.

The evolution of Nintex Workflow Cloud

We set out to rapidly evolve and mature Nintex Workflow Cloud, allowing our customers and partners to use the platform for workloads that previously would have been limited to Nintex Workflow for Office 365.

What is now known as Nintex Workflow Cloud has created new opportunities for Nintex customers and partners looking to solve expanded use cases and scenarios. With Nintex Workflow Cloud, IT, ops, business analysts, and process professionals can automate their most crucial business processes, such as customer onboarding, contract management, order-to-cash, loan processing, Microsoft Teams governance – and in recent months, contact tracing, health checks, and return to work planning.

We have been relentless in building new capabilities to focus on three key areas:

  • An easy to use, powerful, and complete automation solution through integration between Nintex Promapp®, Nintex RPA, and Nintex Workflow Cloud. Customers can now map their process in Nintex Promapp, choose from a variety of automation options – Nintex Workflow Cloud or robotic process automation software – and then measure and optimize their process with Nintex Analytics.
  • Improved governance and management through SAML support for SSO, user groups, workflow versioning, workflow testing, and workflow tagging. Also, we’ve opened new data centers in Europe and the Asia Pacific to ensure customers looking to adopt Nintex Workflow Cloud can meet their data residency requirements, while also benefitting from high availability and resiliency.
  • A greater depth and breadth of business solutions with the addition of data sources for Nintex Forms, authenticated tasks, a new Microsoft Teams connector, and an updated SharePoint Online connector.

New possibilities for your automation journey

This latest release includes an updated SharePoint connector for Nintex Workflow Cloud that includes the ability to trigger workflows when items are created or updated within SharePoint – with more than 20 new workflow actions that make it easier than ever to automate your work within SharePoint.

Fueled by the recent announcement from Microsoft on the workflow retirement of SharePoint 2010 and customer concerns about the SharePoint 2013 workflow engine,

now is the perfect time to start transitioning your SharePoint and Office 365 workflows to Nintex Workflow Cloud – or at a minimum, start building new workflows in Nintex Workflow Cloud.

What’s coming in the next generation of Nintex Workflow Cloud

We have put Nintex Workflow Cloud on an accelerated path of innovation and are working hard to ensure that most current use cases will be supported directly in the future.

We continue to deliver on our commitment to innovate on Nintex Workflow Cloud, with new features coming shortly to the platform ­– like support for multi assignees on task, repeating sections in forms, and listing available forms for submission. Some customers such as Zoom, BNBuilders, Red River Bank, and Trinity Grammar School have been on this journey with us from the start and continue to use Nintex Workflow Cloud to solve many of their most pressing business needs.

Over the coming months, we will look to increase the number of connectors available and provide integration to more cloud-based applications, such as Google Sheets, Trello, Exchange Online, and Airtable.

To provide visibility into the overall status of workflows, we will be improving the submission and tracking capabilities for both users who have submitted a form, as well as for process stakeholders.

Last but not least, we understand that many customers have an existing on-premises line of business systems, or even existing Nintex on-premises deployments. We will be investing in more integrated hybrid capabilities that will allow greater connectivity between the “cloud and ground.”
