Microsoft, as you might expect, has a significant presence at the conference, making a number of key announcements at its SharePoint Virtual Summit, which was streamed live around the world and available to watch on-demand.
The Virtual Summit was led by Microsoft Corporate Vice President Jeff Teper. Teper shared his vision and roadmap for innovation across SharePoint, which is currently used by more than 400,000 organizations.
Digital transformation was top of mind with a distinct focus on how emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and mixed reality have an important role to play. In fact, the growing impact of AI was singled out as one of the key trends facing the modern workplace.
The message was clear: organizations should leverage the power of AI to drive a truly effective digital transformation strategy.
Nintex was proud to sponsor the event and sees the emerging role of intelligent technologies as a way to improve how work gets done. In fact, we believe that we’re entering the fourth era of process automation: Intelligent Process Automation (IPA), which utilizes the power of machine learning, natural language processing, and deep learning to fundamentally change the way modern workplaces innovate and operate.
Now let’s look at key announcements from this year’s SharePoint Conference North America and discuss how Microsoft’s innovative path fits with what we are doing here at Nintex.
AI: The Hot Topic at SharePoint Conference North America
Here are two announcements made at the event that particularly caught our attention:
1. SharePoint Gets an Injection of AI
There are countless opportunities to use the data created in our daily work processes to gain valuable insights that can further drive productivity. All that is needed is a more efficient and intelligent way to sift through all the information. AI is incredibly well suited for the job.
The ability to mine through vast sets of data is AI’s major breakthrough in the enterprise space. At Nintex, the new technology is the driving force behind IPA.
With AI in SharePoint, admins will be able to develop a better understanding of how people work, what they work on, who they work with, and how individual work relates to others within an organization. This can help create more a personalized and intelligent experience of using SharePoint, speeding up a user’s ability to get work done.
2. SharePoint Has a New Home in Mixed Reality
During the last few years, Microsoft has been releasing new applications for mixed reality and demonstrating real-world scenarios in which mixed reality can enhance the workplace.
At SharePoint Conference North America, Microsoft continued the trend by announcing SharePoint spaces – a new mixed reality experience for SharePoint users.
Microsoft says, “Mixed reality experiences immerse you, focus your attention, engage your senses, and spark your curiosity and imagination to unlock new scenarios for communication, learning, and collaboration.” They propose that mixed reality could be used to improve several areas of work, including recruiting, onboarding, and training.
