Revolutionizing the Application Process with Nintex + Avanade

Companies around the world are using process automation technology to help everyone work better together. Today, Mike Lewis and I shared a first look into a joint solution Nintex has been developing with our partners at Avanade to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) with the Nintex Platform to not only automate but to fundamentally change the way applications are processed.

Here’s How it Works:

The Issue

We all know (and bemoan) the application process. It’s a lot of work to apply for a new job or military post; to get a marriage license; to open a new insurance, bank, or investment account; to rent an apartment or car; or to finance any purchase, from a jet ski to a new home.

And while the application process is tedious enough for the consumer, it’s nothing compared to the pain felt by the business or agency on the other side.  Behind all of those applications is a mountain of manual tasks – often involving manual data input and archiving, document generation, background checks, creation and maintenance of account information, and ultimately, external communication to the customer.

This process typically involves far too many time-consuming steps and too few resources to handle the volume of work, which can result in errors and delays.

The Resolution

The Nintex + Avanade solution is designed to fundamentally change this application process from end-to-end, leveraging a combination of human and machine intelligence to create a streamlined experience for the organization, well as the end consumer.

“Our work with Nintex is enabling us to combine the best of Avanade’s consulting skills, Nintex’s Intelligent Process Automation platform and Microsoft’s industry-leading machine intelligence,” says Frank Catone, Robotics Process Automation Sales Lead at Avanade.

This new IPA process begins with a groundbreaking AI application created by Avanade, known as the Document Entity Identifier, or DEI.

DEI’s algorithms leverage multiple Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services tools, including Computer Vision and Text Analytics, to read, classify, and extract value from a scanned document.

Why is this important? DEI allows a consumer to simply submit a photo of their government-issued ID, and the key information required for a background check will be automatically sent through.

And when you combine this DEI solution with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and orchestrate the entire process using Nintex’s Advanced Workflow capabilities, you get a completely new application process.

“The DEI solution is a great example of how we can leverage the out-of-the-box AI functionality from Microsoft Azure with a software robot from Blue Prism’s Enterprise RPA tool and orchestrate the intelligent workflow with Nintex across the entire process, providing immediate business benefits to our clients with a solution that is scalable, cost effective, and easy to maintain,” says Frank.

Here’s a look:

  • A prospective banking customer fills out a modern online application form – optimized to collect only the most essential information – and submits a photo of her government ID.
  • Behind the scenes, Advanced Workflow validates and updates account records (CRM) and facilitates Avanade’s DEI solution to extract key values needed to conduct the Know Your Customer (KYC) background check, required for any new banking customer.
  • The extracted values and account information are then keyed into the KYC system using a Robotic Process Automation solution.
  • When the KYC check is completed, the workflow updates the account record and automates the remaining human-centric steps, including notifications and routing for any internal reviews and approvals.

The prospective customer has a great first experience with the bank because her application process was automated and seamless. She was notified of the application status throughout the entire process and welcomed with key information needed to successfully onboard once she was approved.

I’m very excited about the potential of this solution to help companies reduce errors, save time and money. A truly integrated IPA solution working in conjunction with machine learning and AI can eliminate the hassle and headache of the application process, and beyond.
