We use our Q&A blog series to find out a bit more about the team and what life at Nintex is like. Melissa has been with Nintex for seven years and has worked in various roles in the sales team… who would have thought collecting for her weekly paper route at her first job would set her up for a successful sales career? She loves working with customers, watching their success, and sharing their stories with other Nintex customers.
1. What is your role at Nintex?
My current role is as an account executive on the new logo SMB team covering the Northeast. I have been in several different sales roles at Nintex through the years which has been great for my professional development and for the Gemini in me that needs constant change and challenge.
2. Tell us a little bit about how you ended up at Nintex?
I was on the Promapp sales team when we were acquired by Nintex in 2018. I was so excited to realize that my conversations around process management could now extend into what is often the desired future state with more automation. The synergy with Nintex, a platform that shared some of the best-selling points of Promapp in ease of use and time to value, meant it would be possible to drive even more impactful results for our customer base.
3. What has been your favorite project or moment at Nintex so far?
One of the ways that we celebrate sales success at Nintex is through an Excellence Club trip to a beautiful destination with all the top contributors. In Fall 2019, my husband and I traveled to Maui, Hawaii for this experience, and it was INCREDIBLE! We were spoiled in every possible way, and I got to spend time relaxing and celebrating with my colleagues and leaders. It transformed so many relationships for me at Nintex. By the end of the trip, my husband was offering to make cold calls for me to make sure we could attend again the following year.
4. What does an ideal day off look like for you?
My ideal day off means heading out of town for an adventure. I get antsy after too many days at home and really enjoy traveling. Whether it is a road trip with my family or a chance to spend time with my friends, I love an opportunity to get away for a couple of days.
5. Where is home for you?
I currently live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – which is where I grew up. I moved around a lot at the beginning of my career – from the east to the west coast (twice) but am so happy that we moved closer to my family shortly before COVID. They have been a huge support to us in every way during the past few years!
That said, the place I loved living the most was Napa Valley, California. The scenery and lifestyle just feed my soul there. It is an agricultural community at its core with such a sophisticated simplicity. I dream about returning to making it my home again in the future.
6. What is your favorite activity?
I love cooking. It is therapeutic for me.
7. What is the best advice you could give to a Nintex customer?
Let us celebrate and share your successes with you.
I am so fortunate in my role that I get to see the impact Nintex can have from the moment it is introduced to an organization, to months later when the true return on investment materializes. I have seen cultures change, employee engagement scores improve, and countless operational efficiency gains!
I love getting to share these stories and how our champion took their vision from early stages to fully realized, and hope we can continue to work with customers on more videos and case studies so they can tell the story in their own words and share what it has meant for their company and career.
8. What is your favorite food?
I love sushi. We eat it almost every Friday as my end-of-week treat!
9. What was your first job ever?
I had a weekly paper route delivering our community newspaper. Going door-to-door to collect was pretty uncomfortable for me at the time – little did I know what a great training ground this would be for my future roles.
10. What does your reading list look like?
It’s pretty much a combination of books to help me become a better professional and better parent. Plus, a couple of Lianne Moriarty novels – which are always so good.
11. What would you like to be famous for?
Our daughter has an ultra-rare genetic disorder, so I would love more than anything to become famous as the patient advocate who helped in finding a cure for it.
12. What kind of music do you gravitate to?
I am kind of stuck in the late 90s / early 2000s on my workout mix, but I also love playing jazz covers.
13. What is the next destination on your travel bucket list?
Paris! I am hoping 2022 is my year with Mona Lisa and the Eiffel Tower.
14. Would you rather be able to fly or know any language on earth?
I would prefer to know any language. No destination is meaningful to me without human connection.
15. What is your favorite movie or binge series and why?
I just finished binge-watching Money Heist. I highly recommend it. I was sincerely sad when it was over. I found the creativity and innovation in how they assembled the team, approached each heist, won over the support of the masses, the character development, and the music all enthralling. I had to change my ringtone to Bella Ciao!
16. Do you have any advice for a prospective Nintex employee?
It will be easy to see in your research that we have great products, inspiring leaders, generous colleagues and a future that is very exciting. But it is the intangible parts of a company culture that I have found really matter the most, and it is the honesty and respect that is shown across the board at Nintex that keeps me here.
17. What is your favorite line from a movie?
“Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
– Forest Gump
18. What are you looking forward to?
In July, our entire sales organization is coming together in Seattle for our Sales Kick-Off event (SKO). We have continued these events virtually during the pandemic, but I am so excited about being back together in person with the broader team after all this time and having some fun together!
Even in quieter years – although I have yet to experience one of these at Nintex – SKO inspires me and ignites my motivation for the year ahead. But this year has been anything but uneventful. We were acquired by TPG, made two new acquisitions: Kryon and AssureSign, and have so many talented new additions to the team.
It’s going to be amazing to hear about the evolving strategy and product roadmap – I am also hoping we will get a glimpse of where Excellence Club will be in 2023. Then I can come home and remind my husband about his offer to make some cold calls.
