We caught up with Magda Le Roux for this Nintex Q&A which is designed to highlight people behind the scenes who are powering the world’s leading workflow automation platform.
Magda represents the Nintex team in South Africa and recently celebrated her 16th anniversary with the company. We asked Magda 15 questions and shared her responses below.
- What is your role at Nintex?
I am a proud member of the technical content team based in South Africa.
- Tell us a little bit about how you ended up at Nintex?
I joined the team after Nintex’s acquisition of K2 software in October 2020.
- What has been your favorite project of your career?
The release of Nintex K2 blackpearl® has been my favorite project so far. It was the biggest release for our company at the time – containing our most innovative, cutting-edge technology including capabilities like Nintex K2 SmartObjects and Nintex K2 SmartForms.
We worked many hours of overtime, but we were having fun with the new technology at the same time. Our motto has always been work hard and have fun.
It was very exciting to be on the forefront of new technology and setting the trend for our competitors. The reward of this project was seeing the difference it made in our customers’ lives. Suddenly all the components came together to create a world class automation technology that we are super proud of.
- What does an ideal day-off of work look like for you?
To be in the bushveld amongst the wildlife and experiencing tranquility and peace in nature.
- Where is home for you?
Home is where my family is. We stay in Centurion, a suburb of Pretoria, South Africa.
- What is the best part about where you live right now?
The climate and nature. Our summers are long and warm with rain showers to cool it off when it gets too hot. We typically don’t have extreme temperatures. The climate allows you to spend most of your time outdoors, which is what we do most of the time when we’re not working.
- What is your favorite food?
I don’t really have a favorite. I enjoy trying new cuisines as often as I can.
- Do you like working from home or would you rather be in the office?
I love working from home. I’ve been working from home for 11 years. Once you sort out the balance between work and family life, it saves a lot of time and creates a more productive environment.
- What do you like most about your job?
The ability to help people. We have always focused on our customers’ needs, and to make their lives easier by creating technical documentation that is easy to understand and apply to our products. We constantly research new trends and innovate our documentation to help customers get the best experience when having to search or read up on our products.
- What are tips for dealing with overwhelm?
I believe in “force chilling” which is a concept I created for myself when I started working from home 11 years ago. I would easily get overwhelmed when I had too much to do and so little time – as work and family time just seemed to melt into each other. I would rush through everything, eat at my desk while working (not taking a proper lunch hour), and work very late nights. This was not good for my health. I had to learn to balance my work and family life.
So, I decided to force myself to “chill”. I started planning my weeks and days to allow me to allocate sufficient time for work and family. I also started doing things slower, forcing myself to take a breather and focus on quality rather than quantity. In the end, the work was much more manageable because it was planned properly.
All of this is not a one-time solution. It requires daily enforcement of dedicated time set aside for “force chilling” to be successful.
- What kind of music do you gravitate to?
I love music from the ‘80s.
- If given a chance who would you like to be for a day?
I would love to be my dogs. They are spoiled rotten.
- What’s the best vacation you’ve taken and why?
Spending time in Dubai with our eldest daughter who is currently living there and working as an air hostess for Emirates.
- What’s your favorite spot to getaway?
We love visiting Kruger National Park.
- How do you define success?
Achieving the goals you set for yourself and making a difference in someone’s life.
That’s all for this Q&A with Magda Le Roux. We’re always hiring. Join Magda and the rest of the Nintex team by visiting Nintex.com/careers.
