We use our Q&A blog series to find out a bit more about the team and what life at Nintex is like. Li Theng combines remote work and going into the Nintex office in Kuala Lumpur. Her best piece of advice for Nintex customers is to automate.
What is your role at Nintex?
Senior Software Engineer, based in Kuala Lumpur.
Tell us how you ended up at Nintex.
I was choosing between offers and I chose the one that required the least amount of effort and time to travel. Therefore, I chose Nintex.
How long have you been with Nintex?
I think it is more than seven years.
What has been your favorite project or moment at Nintex so far?
My favorite moment happened a few years back when we had an on-site hackathon in the Kuala Lumpur office where we recorded videos for a pitch.
We played the role of video directors, screenwriters, actors, actresses, and video editors. Everyone on the team was so involved, it was an interesting and fun experience.
What does an ideal day off look like for you?
Starting the morning with a quick 15-minute meditation with Headspace.
Where is home for you?
Klang, Selangor. My birth town.
What is your favorite activity?
Visiting our family’s list of beaches in Malaysia.
What is the best advice you could give to a Nintex customer?
What is your favorite food?
Too many, but the ones that I thought of immediately are Nasi Lemak, Mango Pudding and Nyonya Kuih.
If you could learn a new skill or hobby today, what would it be?
Would you rather cook dinner or have dinner cooked for you?
I prefer someone to cook for me (if possible, my mummy).
What was your first job ever?
A salesperson at a supermarket at the purchase counter. We also had to rotate between sales and cashier roles at the counter.
Would you rather have a cat or a dog as a pet?
No to both, I’m not a pet person. I’m scared of both when they come too near me.
What does your ideal house look like?
Spacious bungalow in the suburbs.
Do you like working from home or would you rather be in the office, or a combination?
I would like a combination of both, so I can meet colleagues in person. However, I still prefer to work from home most of the time to avoid traffic jams.
What is your favorite book?
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. It tells the story of Amir, a young boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul, and how he lived through the Taliban-era.
What do you like most about your job?
Opportunities to build products that automate processes and make life easier.
Would you rather have a million dollars in pennies or a million dollars’ worth of ice cream?
I want a million dollars in pennies. I can still use the pennies to buy ice-cream when I want to. I can also slowly use the pennies to buy other stuff.
What does your reading list look like?
I normally have a pair of books, one fictional and one non-fictional. I will usually switch between them. Sometimes I get bored of reading too many fiction books, so I will switch to non-fiction. Sometimes I get too tired of absorbing the information in non-fiction, so I will switch to fiction.
