Manufacturing companies rely heavily on workflows. From reviews to approvals, departments can be held up by manual or paper-based processes. When staff are relying on a mix of paperwork and manual data entry, there is a potential for the process to be slowed down or for documents to be lost. That’s why workflow automation software is critical to keep the process moving along quickly and efficiently.
This was the case for E.T. Browne Drug Co. Whether or not you know E.T. Browne, you might know its most popular product: Palmer’s Cocoa Butter, sold worldwide and is the #1 cocoa butter brand in the US. The 180-year-old family prides itself as a leader in treatment-oriented beauty products.
The company continually designs and redesigns its labels and packaging both for new products and for new formulations of existing products. The manual review and approval process for this content involved sharing versions of files back and forth between all departments. Documents could sit on a manager’s desk for days or weeks, inevitably delaying time to market. There was also little visibility into the status of ongoing reviews along with constant issues around whether someone had the correct version for review and no reminders to perform tasks. In E.T. Browne’s highly competitive marketplace, executives knew they needed to address these challenges quickly. Working with Nintex Partner Equilibrium, the company created an automated workflow solution leveraging Nintex Workflow and Nintex Forms.
Adding a new point of view
The Nintex solution enabled the E.T Browne team to implement multiple review stages, to send reminders, and to implement “smart approvals” that automatically approve a review and move it to the next step after a specified number of days.
With the help of Nintex, the company overcame another issue that emerged in the process. The company wasn’t just routing alphanumeric data, but visual data and content. Every department had to see the labels and packaging exactly the same way—exactly as it was supposed to appear on the product. But the Adobe Illustrator files in which that content was created weren’t supported by SharePoint.
Equilibrium offered another solution: its MediaRich® OneViewer™ technology. It supports over 450 filetypes and creates a secure universal viewing experience automatically inside of SharePoint. It enables all approvers to view the exact images in the Adobe files from a single source, directly from notification emails, at their desks, or on their mobile devices, all without the need for plug-ins, downloads, or special applications such as Acrobat or Adobe Illustrator. The E.T. Browne team was extremely happy with the results. They were happy that they could see details that they wouldn’t have seen in a PDF.
“Out of the box, Nintex offered all the features we were looking for… The combination of Nintex with Equilibrium fit our needs like a glove.”
– Pieter Goes, Vice President of IT and BI, E.T. Browne
